Battery disposal

Note on the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG)

According to European regulations*, used electrical and electronic equipment may no longer be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste. They must be collected separately. The symbol of the wheeled bin indicates the necessity of separate collection. You too can help to protect the environment and ensure that, when you no longer wish to use the equipment, it is placed in the separate collection systems provided for this purpose.

In Austria, you are legally** obliged to take your old appliance to a collection system that separates it from unsorted municipal waste. The public waste management authorities (municipalities) have set up collection points for this purpose, at which old appliances from private households in your area can be collected free of charge.

It is possible that the legal disposal authorities will also collect the waste equipment from private households. Please also check your local waste calendar or contact your city or municipal administration for information on the options available in your area for returning or collecting old appliances.

* Directive 2002/96/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 January 2003 on waste electrical and electronic equipment.

** Law on the placing on the market, return and environmentally sound disposal of electrical and electronic equipment (Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act - ElektroG) of 16 March 2005.

Further information on the disposal of batteries:

According to § 18 para. 1 battery law we point out that you as a final consumer are legally obliged to return used batteries. Batteries can be returned to us free of charge after use.

We would like to point out that also every other person, who as a distributor delivers batteries to end users, is obliged to return batteries from the end user at the point of sale or in its immediate vicinity or in the dispatch warehouse (at online dealers).

The take-back obligation is limited to used batteries of the type that the distributor carries or has carried as new batteries in its product range and to the quantity that end users usually discard.

The symbols shown on the batteries have the following meaning:

= Battery must not be disposed of in the household waste!
